Winter Olympics & Black History Month

Students are invited to support TEAM USA by wearing red/white/blue for the following Fridays; February 13, 20, 27 and March 6. We encourage you to take in the games as a family and experience the thrill of the Olympics.

The next four weeks, February 9-March 6, we will honor and recognize Black Americans though the lens of the Winter Olympics. Each classroom has selected a Black American who has made notable contributions to the Winter Games, be it as an athlete, fashion designer, broadcaster, representative or board member. Our Library Media center windows will be transformed to an art installation that we will post next Friday, February 13. During those four weeks, the Morning News will include a reading of each person's bio.

WOW! Word Of the Week

Word Of The Week

Our Word Of the Week is SYNTHESIZE

SYNTHESIZE is to combine the elements of separate material into a single entity

Try asking these questions to learn about your Bobcats day while reinforcing our Word of the Week!
  • If you had to synthesize your favorite parts of school today into one giant 'Super-Subject,' which classes or activities would you combine and what would you call it?
  • We saw a lot of different things today! Can you synthesize two different things you learned (like a fact from science and a story from English) to create a brand-new idea or invention?
  • If you took the best part of your morning and the best part of your afternoon and synthesized them into a short bedtime story, how would those two different moments fit together?
The Positivity Project Family Newsletter

The Positivity Project Family Newsletter

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Humility. Humility means not seeking attention and letting your actions speak for themselves. Humble people understand their abilities and achievements without underestimating them. They can admit mistakes, accept advice, and are open to new ideas. They don't show off their successes or possessions.

Developing humility helps people reflect on how they can improve and work well with others. It allows them to grow and become valuable team members.

To practice and encourage the character strength of humility at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
