Attendance is the leading indicator of your child’s lifelong success
Good attendance is critical for success in school. All absences will be coded unexcused unless a valid/lawful email or a written note from the parent/guardian is received within two days. Tardies and early dismissals both are reflected on the report card as tardies. State law allows absences to be excused for the following reasons:
Illness or injury
Quarantine
Death in the immediate family(obituary or program needed)
Medical or dental appointments (doctor note required)
Court or administrative proceedings (documentation required)
Religious observance (up to two each academic year)
Educational opportunity - Your request must be submitted for consideration at least two weeks prior to absence. An explanation of the trip/opportunity must be given.
**Click here to complete the R.Brown McAllister STEM Elementary Absence Excuse Form.
**Click here to download the K-8 Educational Opportunity Form. This form can then be filled out and turned into our front office. This form must be completed and submitted to the principal two weeks prior to the absence in order for the absences to be considered as valid/lawful. No student will be excused for more than the five (5) school days per school year. Approval for such an absence(s), however, must be granted prior to the absence(s). (School Attendance & Student Accounting Manual, Public Schools of North Carolina, 2009-2010, Chapter 2, Section IV-D)
We use ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications which allows district, school administrators and teachers to more effectively communicate and engage with families and students. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent using their preferred email address and phone number.
We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences, including when and how they receive notifications.
ParentSquare is a safe, secure, and modern approach to communication and collaboration between school and home. Learn more about ParentSquare.

Edulog is an app that lets parents view the location of their student's school bus to gauge arrival times each day. The app sends a push notification to the parent's smartphone when the bus enters a user-defined geographic area around the stop. Parents only receive access by registering with data unique to their child. It's all information to help parents feel secure about their child's trip on the school bus!
